During the production of Jeff's "Apotheosis : Deviations" remix project, he happened on a process which turned his fretless bass into a weird washy textural sound. The sound in the first section of this piece is actually material created during those sessions that Jeff thought might make a cool Ash On Dust piece.
Jeff created a looped pattern from the material, added a little syncopated percussion part and sent it to Steve with only 1 instruction: use any instrument you have except bass, and use non-conventional ways of playing those instruments.
Steve responded with drum stick tapped guitarron (mexican bass), bowed and tapped mandolin parts, flute and other assorted acoustic sounds.
Jeff arranged all that material and developed the track further with his own unconventional treatments of the resonator bass, fretless bass and percussion.

This album is sublime. Highly recommend it if you're looking for something mellow (or looking for something to run in the background as you do focused work). Fuzzy the Amazing Sloth Rider
